Phytotherapy and bud-derived products

Thanks to their chemical composition, herbal and pharmaceutical companies use chestnut buds as raw material for producing herbal preparations derived by fresh plant meristematic tissues as buds and sprouts.

Castanea genus is, among these species, the most used for its beneficial effects on stagnant and vascular fluids. The research aims to identify and quantify the main bioactive compounds in raw materials and derived products in relation to product quality, which is strongly dependant on genotype (intraspecific chemodiversity), different sampling time, harvest site (wild varieties or traditional or intensive orchards) and pedoclimatic conditions, agro-techniques and post-harvest handling.
